Japan: Endurance rider dies of head injury two weeks after fall at Euston Park

A Japanese endurance rider, who fell during the CEI***160km ride at Euston Park on 11 July, has died.

 

 

Mitsuko Masui represented Japan at the 2006 World Equestrian Games, Aachen Germany and was 73 years old.

 

 

She was airlifted from the course and taken to Addenbrookes Hospital in Cambridge, where she was operated on for a blood clot on the brain. She has since died.

 

 

Chairman of Endurance GB Jo Claridge said: "Mitsuko was an inspiration to riders worldwide for competing at such an advanced level at her age."

 

 

An inquest has been opened and adjourned to a later date by the Norfolk coroner.
